If you’re considering enrolling in a nursing program to become a qualified and certified nurse, then having your education and training is important.
The schools of nursing in Nigeria have a track record of turning out qualified nurses all around the country.
Who, in all seriousness, does not adore the nurses working in hospitals for their extraordinary displays of compassion, attention, care, and ultimately caring for patients?
They help patients take their meds and fulfill other required functions as they go about their duties with a strong feeling of duty. They assist doctors in assisting patients take their medications.
While looking for schools that will accept their children, many parents search for nursing programs at any of the best universities in Nigeria.
Before I proceed to the best 12 nursing schools in Nigeria I will like to inform you about SchoolPeza.com, a great resource for school news, updates, and more.
Types of Nursing Schools In Nigeria
The following programs are the types of nursing training opportunities available for desiring students:
- School of Nursing (Basic)
- Schools of Midwifery (Basic/ Post Basic)

What is the provisional and full accreditation of schools of nursing?
- Provisional school of nursing are schools that have been partly accredited for a given period of time before the full license is being issued.
This may be due to the inability of the school to meet the full requirements made by the body in charge and can be ceased from practicing until a full license is issued.
- Also, fully accredited schools of nursing have met up with the requirement made by the national body.
These National Organizations that accredit nursing programs include the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and the other is the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
You should be aware that there are certain nursing schools that have the approval of their state board of nursing but do not hold accreditation from a national accreditation agency.
It is therefore not necessarily the case that you will be unable to work as a nurse if you attend a nursing school that has not received full accreditation.
It goes without saying that in order to gain admission into any nursing school in Nigeria, you need to have finished your secondary school education, have earned at least a credit in 5 subjects on either the WAEC or the NECO, and have had no more than 2 attempts at taking the exams.
The curriculum consists of the English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, as well as either Biology or Health Science.
After graduating, you will have the skills necessary to become a registered nurse and will be able to find employment in any organization of your choosing.
Later in this post, we’ll share with you the requirements to get admission and study in any of the listed school of nursing in Nigeria.
List of School of Nursing In Nigeria And Their Cut Off Mark
If you graduate from one of the nursing schools that is currently on full accreditation, which is valid for a period of 5 years, or one of the nursing schools that is currently on provisional accreditation, which is valid for a period of 2 years, then you are eligible to become a certified nurse in Nigeria.
