Victor James Osimhen is the Nigerian superstar footballer who’s being followed by some of the most prominent names in football.

He has an incredible story that started when he was born, on the 29th of December 1988. Victor is from Lagos, where he moved shortly before his birth, and he’s the sixth child of a low-income family.

Who could have thought that Napoli’s star player, who’s being followed closely by Chelsea, had spent his childhood under the scorching-hot Lagos sun?

First, he was running around the cars where his mother sold sachets of drinking water; to boost the family’s income.

By the time he could do that by himself, he started selling the water to help raise funds for the family and get a decent education.

The Primary School at Olusosun is where Victor started studying and his initial contact with football.

Victor spent all his free time playing football alongside other students and children from the community. His older brother was already active in football and a star in his own right in the local community.

That is where Victor got the inspiration to improve his football skills. Thanks to his brother Andrew, Victor started supporting Chelsea FC, while Didier Drogba became his idol.

Andrew recognized that his younger brother was an exceptionally talented football player, so he decided to abandon his education in exchange for helping to earn money so that Victor could follow his dream and become a professional footballer.

The family’s valiant efforts finally paid off as Victor joined the Ultima Strikers Academy in Lagos.

His impressive trial caught the eye of Nigeria’s U-17 team coach Amuneke, and he subsequently joined the international youth team.

His outstanding performances on the field of play for the Nigerian U17 team drew the attention of German team VfL Wolfsburg, and he was offered a three-and-a-half-year deal in 2017.

His stint at Wolfsburg lasted a year, and he subsequently had trials for Zulte and Club Brugge.

Finally, he was all set to join a Belgium club. However, his physical condition was insisted on catching malaria. He was eventually sent out on loan to Charleroi, scoring 20 goals in his 36 appearances.

His success in the Belgium league led to the inevitable move to Ligue 1. He joined Lille in 2019, and the one year he spent in France, he managed to net 18 goals in his 38 appearances.

His unique footballing skills and awareness in front of goal drew the attention of the Italian Serie A club Napoli, where he has been playing ever since 2020.

He became Napoli’s most expensive transfer ever, proving an excellent investment with 15+ goals to his name for the team.

He’s been referred to by experts as Africa’s most-wanted football player at present, as Victor showcases his exceptional footballing skills and unique talent at Napoli.

No wonder Chelsea and other top European clubs are reportedly interested in acquiring the 22-year-old Nigerian striker’s services.

Where he plays next is anyone’s guess; however, Victor’s future looks bright at present. While Didier Drogba was Victor’s idol when he was a child, he has become an idol for young Nigerians and youngsters worldwide. We can all draw inspiration from Victor’s experience.
